Our family welcomes yours – of any size and all generations. Our approach to your stay is flexibility – around accommodations, meals, and activities – to keep everyone happy, not least your children. Fizzing with the excitement of discovery, they need a bit more freedom to explore and just be kids.
Within this easy-going environment, we often see youngsters (and adults alike) disconnecting from technology. During this pause, our commitment is to creating experiences that reconnect you with each other and the ‘wonder-fulness’ of life.
Older family groups can take over Mountain Lodge exclusively, while Safari Lodge provides a place for younger families to come together – kept stress free with every comfort and convenience provided. The lodge’s four Tented Family Suites each include a second children’s bunk bedroom, giving your kids (and you) their own space – just like home only better. It’s en-suite and perfectly kitted out for them, with natural bath products, gown and slipper sets,
toys and games, bedside hot-chocolate mugs, and storybooks put onto their pillows.
This will be a family safari your tribe will never forget. Whether inspecting a tiny wild flower or hearing the roar of a lion for the first time, you’ll rediscover life through the awe-filled gazes of your children. We know that Mother Nature is the greatest teacher of the only things that truly matter. For children 3 to 5 years, there are family bush bumbles, they are also welcome on the private game drives, and those 6 years and older can join the twice-daily drives.
Mack & Madi Kids’ Adventure Club
This is not just a kids’ club. This is a full-on kids’ adventure for the best time they’ll have exploring on safari… We’ve got all bases covered: suites to have your family settled in no time, experienced childminders to put your mind at ease, and activities and surprises to delight your children. Our pledge is to show them the wonders of our beautiful world – to teach them about delicate ecosystems, help them tune into the call of the wild, and introduce them to fascinating people – encouraging them to discover and learn through having FUN!
Everyone loves the pool and board games played in front of the lounge fireplace. But if you’re looking for some time alone or as a couple, in-room spa therapies can be arranged back in the quiet privacy of your suite or viewing deck. All treatments are given by our expert therapists, and use natural and organic Africology products. Between the scents of aromatherapy oils, a light breeze and serene view, is a deeply immersive experience. Might we suggest the hour-long Bespoke Body Experience, tailored specifically to you?
Share a Meal Together
Meal times bring everyone around the dining table/boma fire/picnic basket/bush buffet. Food is familiar (and sometimes adventurous) with many choices for picky eaters – our chefs can prepare dishes to tempt any appetite and no one goes hungry! All meals are delicious – minimising refined sugar and preservatives, but never skimping on flavour, and sneaking in plenty of fresh fruit and veg. But there are also treats… tuck into burgers during an outdoor movie, cosy up to toast marshmallows on the fire, or sip hot chocolate in bed.
For any family that has read The Magic Faraway Tree, Thabametsi blurs the lines between a fantasy and an as-real-as-you-get African adventure, in what feels like a whole other world. Spot strange new animals out on the savannah, have a picnic feast in the moonlight, and snuggle down with only a mosquito net between you and the southern sky. The Treehouse comfortably sleeps two adults and two children (6 to 15 years).
